DOG'S TRAINING METHODS, Techniques BASED ON REWARD - NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT

REINFORCEMENT always HAS the effect of make the dog repeat a specific behavior.

NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT
Here we suppressed an unpleasant situation to increase repetiton of a given canine behavior.

This training method is not very pleasant for the master and his dog.

Negative reinforcement is a painful stimulus for the dog that occurs whenever the dog execute an action that we want him to avoid.

This negative reinforcement must be strong enough to scare him, but without traumatise him.

When using this type of reinforcement, always provide an alternative behavior (fleeing) to avoid traumatizing our little yorkie baby.

ex:
We forced our little dog to sit by pressing his back with our hand until he sits down or we spray a repulsive liquid (that smelle bad for them) when the dog eats a piece of furniture. In this case the dog run away instantly.

Thereafter, when it will recognize the furniture and the smell, it will move away because he will associate the unpleasant sensation he has experienced previously and thus seek to avoid it.
THERE IS 2 TYPES OF NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT

Avoidance :
when risk of aversion appears only when the behavior is presented. (Examples: the dog walk near us to avoid a correction). Avoidance is associated with the threat of an aversion.

escape:
when risk of aversion is continuously applied to then be removed only when the animal produces a particular behavior. Example: teach a dog the "down" by a tension on the leash when the dog is lying down, the tension of the leash is loosen.
